Is it me or .... what's really up here?

Keeping track of fraud related media on a daily basis I cannot help but noticing that one after the other investigation is being picked up by authorities all over the place. The Madoff case appears to have been a trigger for a widespread flood of investigations against all kinds of well established names in business.

The FBI reports one ofter the other investigation, the SEC is going double speed, Australia's market watchdog is suing the country's third largest iron ore mining company Fortescue MetalsElizabeth Baldwin is being investigated. In fact I could fill a page with all kinds of ongoing investigations and newly started investigations.

What strikes me a bit is that these all seem tpo come so all of a sudden and that all of sidden these parties are being identified as having scammed investors for years. I am wondering how this suden explosion of 'discoveries' all seem to be coming about at the same time?

Could it maybe be that instead of a spike in these schemes, the public is starting to wonder whether these agencies, those watchdogs, admittedly usually underfunded, have been getting somewhat complacent, somewhat less vigilant than they should have been considering that it were our tax dollars that have funded these organizations? Don't get me wrong. Bad apples need to be removed if only so as not to spoil the rest of the lot. Don't get me wrong. Bad apples need to be removed if only so as not to spoil the rest of the lot. But what is it with this sudden dioscovery of so many bad apples?

Could it maybe be that this current tsunami of fresjhly detected fraud cases is actually nothing more than window dressing? Could it maybe be that we have been aware that our business and lives were determined by a otten to the bone financial system and with authorities not intervening they have actually been instrumental in keeping these players alive? I know that allegations have been made about Amway in the past (see www.merchantsofdeception.com or www.pyramidschemealert.org) and how political influence has been instrumental in not being prosecuted, and that is either Amway or the large distributors. Really, I can't help thinking: what is really up here?

I'd be keen to hear your views.
